Audit evidence for a
MiCA-era business

Crypto-asset businesses combine regulated activities with technically complex evidence: wallets, custodians, exchanges, token balances, fiat rails, safeguarding, revenue recognition and high-volume transaction data. The audit approach must understand both the accounting and the operating architecture.

CySEC now maintains MiCAR/CASP registers, including entities authorised under Article 63. We support the financial reporting and assurance workstreams around Cyprus entities while coordinating, where needed, with specialist legal and regulatory advisers.

Regulatory reference: CySEC — Crypto-Assets Entities (MiCAR). Regulatory scope depends on the entity, activities and authorisation.

Frequently asked questions

Practical questions, answered

What is a CASP under MiCA?

A crypto-asset service provider (CASP) is an entity providing one or more crypto-asset services within the scope of the EU Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA). The precise authorisation and obligations depend on the services and entity.

Is a MiCA audit the same as a statutory audit?

Not necessarily. “MiCA audit” is often used as a search term for audit and assurance work around MiCA-regulated businesses. Statutory audit requirements and any regulatory assurance procedures depend on the legal entity, licence, reporting framework and applicable rules.

Can you audit crypto assets and wallet balances?

Where within the agreed audit scope, procedures can address existence, ownership or control, wallet evidence, exchange and custodian confirmations, transaction histories, valuation, cut-off and financial-statement presentation.

Do you support CASP accounting and financial reporting?

Yes, subject to independence requirements. We can support accounting architecture, IFRS financial reporting, reconciliations and audit readiness for complex digital-asset and payment flows.

Do you help with CySEC authorisation applications?

We can support financial, accounting, governance and audit-readiness workstreams and coordinate with the client’s legal or regulatory advisers. We do not present accounting support as legal advice or guarantee regulatory authorisation.
